Cross Cultural Performances with Notes Inégales

Saturday, 23 July, 2016

It was a great privilege to play tuba with Peter Wiegold's ensemble Notes Inégales at two performances over the past few weeks. The first was at the Michael Tippet Centre in Bath, where Peter gave a keynote paper at the 2016 Performance Studies Network Conference, hosted by Bath Spa University. The ensemble joined Peter as part of the presentation and also gave a concert that evening featuring several premiere's by Peter as well as postcard scores composed by members of the audience, and even some Purcell. The concert was then repeated in London at Club Inégales as part of the Academy Inégales Weekender project.

It was a thoroughly engaging experience playing with some fantastic musicians from a variety of cultural backgrounds including Hyelim Kim on the Taegum flute (Korea), Maya Youssef on the kanun (Syria), and Cheng Yu on pipa (China).
